A CFSMP sets out how fire risk will be managed on site throughout the build — temporary escape routes, hot works controls, detection and alarm arrangements, storage of combustibles, emergency procedures and firefighting access. Fire risk during construction must be managed under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 — and most project insurers require compliance with the Joint Code of Practice, which calls for a documented fire safety plan. A bespoke plan is how you evidence all three.
The plan sets out how the site should run; regular assessments check the day-to-day reality against it. Frequency is risk-based — typically monthly on live sites, more often at high-risk stages such as timber frame erection, cladding installation or extensive hot works.
